A New Luminescent Zn(II) Complex: Selective Sensing of Cr 2 O 72- and Prevention Activity Against Orthodontic Root Absorption by Suppressing Inflammatory Response
A novel luminescent coordination polymer (CP) based on Zn(II) ions as nodes [Zn(OPY)1.5(Hbtc)]n (1), [H3btc = trimesic acid and OPY = 4,4′-(oxybis(4,1-phenylene))dipyridine] has been prepared via the solvothermal assembly of a tripodal multicarboxylic acid ligand, a bis-pyridyl ligand with V-shape containing two diverse coordination patterns as well as Zn2 + ion.
The experiments of photoluminescence also reflect that the coordination polymer 1 has high sensitivity to potassium dichromate, and its quenching efficiency is Ksv of 2.12 × 104 L·mol– 1.
Furthermore, its treatment activity on orthodontic root absorption was evaluated in vivo. Firstly, the CCK-8 assay was performed in this research to evaluate the biotoxicity of the synthetic compound. Next, the TNF-α and Cbfα1 released by the periodontal ligament fibroblast was determined via the ELISA test kit.
In addition to this, the signaling pathway of NF-κB activation after treated with compound was measured by the RT-PCR.

Brain-derived neurotrophic factor and nerve growth factor concentrations in maternal and umbilical cord blood of opium addicted mothers
Background: It is reported that opium consumption during pregnancy is associated with adverse pregnancy outcomes and neurodevelopmental defects in infants. BDNF and NGF alterations during pregnancy cause neurobehavioral deficits in the offspring. The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of opium addiction of pregnant women on BDNF and NGF levels in maternal and umbilical cord blood as well as pregnancy outcome.
Materials and methods: The present research was a cross-sectional study. Thirty-five addicted pregnant women and thirty-five healthy pregnant women were included in the study. Blood samples were taken immediately after delivery from the maternal vein and umbilical cord. Then, BDNF and NGF concentrations in serum were measured by ELISA kits. The outcomes of pregnancy were determined by a checklist. Descriptive, T-test, Mann-Whitney, and Chi-square test were used to analyze the data. SPSS version 21 software was used for the analyses. A p-value <0.05 was considered significant.
Results: BDNF levels were significantly lower in maternal and umbilical cord blood in the opium-addicted group (917.2 31 ± 316.5 pg/ml and 784.6 ± 242.9 pg/ml respectively) compared to the control group (1351 ± 375 pg/ml and 1063 ± 341 pg/ml respectively) (p<0.0001and p< 0.0002 respectively). Similarly, NGF level was significantly lower in maternal and umbilical cord blood in the opium-addicted group (302.7±35.50 pg/ml and 226.6±45.43 pg/ml respectively) compared to the control group (345.7±43.16 pg/ml and 251.2±37.72 pg/ml respectively) (p<0.0001and p= 0.0165 respectively). Adverse pregnancy outcomes such as NICU admissions, congenital anomalies, neonatal deaths, meconium contaminated amniotic fluid, respiratory problems, neonatal resuscitation, and low Apgar score were significantly higher in the opium-addicted group than in the control group.
Conclusion: The results of this study revealed that opium consumption during pregnancy reduces BDNF and NGF levels in maternal and umbilical cord blood, which may cause neurodevelopmental disorders in later periods of infants’ life.
Potential role of CFTR in bisphenol A-induced malignant transformation of prostate cells via mitochondrial apoptosis
Bisphenol A (BPA) is an environmental endocrine disruptor and a risk factor for prostate cancer. The cystic fibrosis transmembrane conductance regulator (CFTR) is proposed to be a prostate cancer suppressor in some recent researches.
- However, the potential role and mechanism of CFTR in BPA-induced prostate cancer cells has not been well identified. In this study, BPA decreased the viability of human normal prostate RWPE-1 cells detected with a CCK-8 kit.
- The capacity of the cell line on soft agar colony formation, wound healing, and transwell invasion indicated malignant transformation induced by BPA. Western blot analysis demonstrated that the levels of CFTR and Bcl-2 decreased, whereas Bax level increased, and ELISA detection showed a decreased ATP level in BPA-exposed cells. Cell apoptosis was analyzed with Annexin V-FITC Detection Kit by flow cytometry.
- However, no significant difference was observed in cell viability and apoptosis rates compared to normal RWPE-1 cells. Our research revealed a potential role of CFTR in BPA-induced malignant transformation via mitochondrial apoptosis of normal prostate cells.
